As a girl growing up in Philadelphia, her parents would scrape snow off the outdoor BBQ to smoke their Christmas dinner, and trial new flavour combinations in the kitchen while she did her homework at the table. After meeting her husband, Emily went on to make Ireland her home, but her passion for food and the flavours of the USA remained close to her heart.
A sudden and devastating family illness changed everything. “I thought, ‘We either sit here and let life steamroll over us, or we gather ourselves and we get back up again,” Emily recalls. She began experimenting with family recipes and concocted two original, now award-winning, Lo & Slo sauces: a Sweet ‘N’ Smoky Barbecue Sauce with warm spices and rich molasses, and a Sweet ‘N’ Spicy Vinegar Mop packed with sweet, sour and chilli notes. The Lo & Slo range also includes delectable dry rubs and a food truck serving up serving up top quality, dripping in deliciousness, locally sourced LegenDerry street food – from juicy pulled pork sliders to BBQ fries – at festivals and events. Like Emily’s passion, enthusiasm and grit, it’s pretty irresistible stuff.
