Claude’s first opened its doors in 2000, but this welcoming, family-run business feels like it’s been in the city for a lifetime.
A Derry institution, Claude’s serves up comforting soups, delicious sandwiches, hearty hot food, coffee and cakes from its spot at the top of Shipquay Street.
More than just a café, it’s a warm and friendly hub, firmly rooted in the community, and well known for its charitable endeavours – most notably on Christmas Day, when owners Declan and Teresa Moore and a team of volunteers serve lunch and deliver food and gifts to people in need of extra help.
Famous, too, are its homemade chocolate brownies. “I may be biased,” says Declan, whose daughter Rebekah bakes them, “but they are amazing, full stop”. Well worth that climb up Shipquay Street!
